04.08.2016

On 4th August 2016, retailer of contemporary fashion, Sarinah participated in the “Siswa Mengenal Nusantara” (SMN) event which strived to support the development of Indonesia’s education sector alongside other renowned state-owned enterprises (SOEs) – including Perum Perumnas, Perum Peruri, PTPN IX, and Kawasan Industri Wijayakusuma (KIW) – in Central Java. The SMN programme invited 20 high-achieving students from Central Java and East Nusa Tenggara for an educational trip across the archipelago in order to raise awareness of the country’s rich cultural heritage and extensive economic potential. In a departure from previous years, the most recent SMN event was also attended by disabled students thus illustrating the continuous efforts to improve upon the programme’s agenda, as highlighted by Finance Director of Sarinah Ms Sumini, Director of KIW, Mr Wahyu Hidayat and Mr Tri Septiyono of PTPN IX.

As a company dedicated to promoting small and medium enterprises, Sarinah and its partners provided a tour of Central Java where the students were introduced to the province’s jamu industry, well-known batik Pekalongan district in addition to being facilitated with a factory tour of PT Semen Indonesia and the Kusuma Wijaya Industrial Zone. Through the tour experience, it is hoped that the students will be able to broaden their knowledge of Indonesia’s cultural diversity in addition to honing in on analytical skills which will be beneficial for future national development; particularly for the Central Java region. Sarinah and participating SOEs also assisted in building a well for the Wunung Gunung Kidul community, providing electricity to families in Wonosobo Regency, and counselling sessions for former athletes among other community empowerment activities.

Sarinah continues to actively demonstrate its willingness to carry out the company’s corporate social responsibilities (CSR) as evident through its latest participation. Moving forward, Sarinah will remain focused on CSR activities that will bring about significant changes for the betterment of local communities and Indonesia’s younger generation.
