On 29th May 2016, leading local retailer Sarinah sponsored the SpecTaxCular 2016 event held by the Indonesian Tax Directorate General during Car Free Day in Jakarta. This SpecTaxCular event was a sports competition for basketball as well as a 5K run, for which Sarinah served as the starting point. Indonesia’s Minister of Finance, Mr Bambang Brodjonegoro was present at the event among other esteemed guests. The programme was also utilised as a means of generating public awareness on the online system for filing and reporting taxes – a measure set to launch on 1st July 2016 by the country’s tax office. As such, additional sponsors included state-owned banks Bank BRI, Bank BNI, and Bank Mandiri which has continued their support for the Indonesian Tax Directorate General.

The 5K running competition was attended by approximately 100 participants and awarded the winners with prize money; event visitors were entitled to win a doorprize which included a new Honda Scoopy motorbike, an iPhone 6 in addition to a domestic vacation package. As an all-encompassing retailer, Sarinah also provided a food festival within its premises offering guests a wide-array of culinary dishes. To further raise awareness of Indonesia’s increasingly tech-savvy measures in financial transaction, food vendors adopted a cashless payment method. Moreover, the SpecTaxCular 2016 event provided visitors with live performances by NIDJI, Asep Suaji, and Happy Ballers. Sarinah’s sponsorship for SpecTaxCular 2016 demonstrates the retailer’s growing role in promoting the modern Indonesian lifestyle as well as its support for a healthy life.
