Bioplastics are undergoing rapid growth with global production expected to reach 7.8 million tonnes in 2019 from 1.7 million in 2014 (European Bioplastics) as a reflection of stricter regulations to reduce plastic consumption in developed markets. ENVIPLAST®’s bio-based polymer compound is an alternative to conventional single-use PE plastic bags and wrapping film, and is more economical than other bioplastics available in the global market.
ENVIPLAST® pellets are produced from industrial natural starches taken from cassava or corn as well as vegetable oil derivatives; resources that are readily available worldwide and thereby ensure that the company does not compete with the food supply chain for raw materials. In sourcing industrial natural starches and its other raw materials, ENVIPLAST® works with established local processors so as to guarantee consistency and quality in manufacturing pellets used to produce eco-friendly bags and film that contain no polyolefin plastic.
Inherently more cost competitive than existing bioplastic pellets due to the use of a less energy intensive production process and the close availability of raw materials, ENVIPLAST® pellets also offer the added advantage of requiring only slight modifications to conventional blown film machines used to make PE plastic bags. Bag manufacturers interested in investing in ENVIPLAST® pellets would thus be able to use existing machines to produce eco-friendly alternatives. Firms without existing machinery can obtain modified blown film machines from ENVIPLAST® as well as receive technical training for their staff at the company’s facilities in Tangerang. ENVIPLAST®, in fact, encourages this type of cooperation through technology transfer to facilitate the development of long-term ties to international clients as a leading supplier of bio-based polymer pellets.
