ENVIPLAST® | ENVIPLAST® Hosts Event with Members of Indonesian Government
08.05.2017

On 8th May 2017, ENVIPLAST® hosted the Minister of Trade and Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs at its factory in Tangerang during an event to raise awareness on technological advancements for the production of biodegradable plastic. The programme was also part of the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation’s initiative to push for innovative methods in biodegradable plastic manufacturing for the African continent. Event attendees included President Director of ENVIPLAST®, Mr Herman Moeliana, Director of ENVIPLAST®, Mr Martinus Arief Moeliana, Minister of Industry, Mr Airlangga Hartanto, and Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs, Mr Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan among many other prominent guests.

With national plastic waste production figures in Indonesia reaching 5.4 million tonnes on an annual basis, the Indonesian government continues to highlight the growing need in finding a solution to the issue. This concern has become increasingly important particularly because Indonesia was ranked as the second largest contributor of plastic waste in the ocean during 2016. As such, ENVIPLAST® demonstrated its upper-hand as a pioneer of Indonesia’s plastic waste problem during the event through a series of laboratory tests. In carrying out this measure, participants including government officials were able to witness first-hand ENVIPLAST® products’ ability to dissolve in water as well as its safe quality for animal consumption.

Given the increasing public awareness on environmental sustainability, the Indonesian government has also pushed forth in encouraging the development of biodegradable plastics – a criteria that ENVIPLAST® has already fulfilled. During an interview with media personnel at the event, the Ministry of Industry is ready to cooperate with ENVIPLAST® going forward in order to boost the company’s production capacity of biodegradable plastic. One of the aims of this initiative is to increase the supply of biodegradable plastic in addition to improving upon the distribution system of these eco-friendly plastic alternatives especially to retailers across Indonesia. As the Indonesian government moves ahead in taking concrete steps to resolute the nationwide plastic waste problem, ENVIPLAST® is poised to play an increasingly important role for the future growth of this cutting-edge trend.
