On 1st April 2016, BNI Syariah inaugurated Agromart as a retail and distribution centre for agricultural and SME goods through a ribbon-cutting ceremony held in Randubelang Village, Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta. Ms Pitra Ardiyati as Head of BNI Syariah Yogyakarta presided over the event which officially launched the store aimed at empowering farmers and SMEs from surrounding communities. As an outlet for their products, Agromart will particularly focus on making available agricultural, livestock, fishery and SME goods that are leading local varieties or have been produced using organic means; such as through the use of non-chemical fertilisers and pesticides.
In establishing Agromart, BNI Syariah partnered with Mr Eko Dadiek as one of the 14 Mutiara Bangsa BerHasanah (MBB) ambassadors within BNI Syariah’s Hasanah Empowerment initiative. Hasanah Empowerment as the Islamic bank’s flagship CSR programme ultimately aims to create 650 new entrepreneurs and has carried out community training on organic farming for various farmer groups in Yogyakarta, as well as vegetable farming in polybags for urban communities.
Ms Ardiyati in her statement during the inauguration of Agromart specifically highlighted Mr Dadiek’s important role within the broader objective of Hasanah Empowerment. “We hope that Mr Eko Dadiek can serve as an example of how SME entrepreneurs can develop their business. BNI Syariah is committed to providing its full support in assisting them and sharing insights about entrepreneurship. It is hoped that BNI Syariah and our MBB ambassadors can continue the cooperation that is berkah [blessed] and hasanah [good],” Ms Ardiyati explained.
