BNI Syariah | BNI Syariah to Further Expand into the Micro Sector
14.01.2013

Bank BNI Syariah is optimistic that financing to the micro segment can surpass 1 trillion RP. This will be achieved via two strategies namely through the direct channeling of funds and through working in collaboration with Islamic microfinance institutions and cooperatives.

At the inauguration of a new service office for the micro finance segment, President Director of BNI Syariah Dinno Indiano said "We want to contribute more to the people of Indonesia through micro services".

BNI Syariah will launch four new micro services branches and 20 sub-branches this year (2013). The four cities targeted for BNI Syariah’s new branches are Makassar, Bengkulu, Jambi, and Kendari. The launching of the new branches is designed to support the development of micro, small and medium enterprises which are a central pillar of the national economy.

Bank Indonesia is also encouraging the banking industry to place more focus on financing for the micro segment which is considered to be the backbone of the Indonesian economy. To that end, the central bank issued a rule that requires banks to have at least 20% of their loan portfolio dedicated to micro loans by 2018. For Islamic banks, Bank Indonesia has provided a period of one year more than conventional banks to adjust to the rule.

Since the launch of its micro lending services in 2012, BNI Syariah has channeled 265 billion RP to a total of 5,355 clients. This year, BNI Syariah is targeting financing for the micro business sector of 860 billion RP to 1 trillion RP.
