His extensive experience in agricultural planning and community development includes a four year term as President Director at the Centre for Regional Resource Development and Community Empowerment (CRESCENT), a Bogor-based NGO where he still serves as Chairman of the Advisory Board.
Trilogi University’s renewed vision and mission is founded on the vision to promote national self-reliance in the areas of food and energy and in turn to address social inequality and widespread poverty in Indonesia. The three pillars of Trilogi University are encapsulated in Teknopreneur (elaborated on below), Collaboration; the instigation of synergies across local and international borders for the benefit of all and Independence; reducing dependence on external suppliers for security and mutual benefit thereby expanding potential areas of opportunity. Pancasila ideology and Indonesian national identity in terms of integrity, democracy and social justice also feature strongly in the educational character of the university.
In addition to the realisation of these three pillars, Trilogi University aims to instil an entrepreneurial spirit not only in its students but also its faculty and staff members. The regeneration of the university demonstrates the forward thinking approach of the senior management to explore a ‘blue ocean strategy’ in Indonesia’s higher education sector. The new courses offered reflect the changing realities of Indonesia as a business and investment destination and its increasing integration with its regional neighbours as the largest economy within the ASEAN group of nations. As Indonesia’s prominence on the world stage continues to grow, the country faces new responsibilities and challenges for which the next generation must be equipped to handle and which Trilogi University sees it has a key role to play.
Producing ‘teknopreneurs’ and encouraging ‘teknopreneurship’ is one of the core philosophies underpinning the new Trilogi University. Teknopreneurship has been defined in a number of ways and claimed by various universities in Indonesia and beyond. On first glance, the term appears to describe the marrying of technology and entrepreneurship for the creation of new, digitally focused business models. However, Trilogi University takes a unique approach to the issue on how the future entrepreneurs of Indonesia have a role to play in environmental sustainability as well as community participation.
At Trilogi University, teknopreneurship is defined as innovation and adaptability to a given environment. That means utilising available natural resources of an area, ensuring minimal waste and environmental impact as well as maximum involvement of the surrounding community of where the business is to be established. As opposed to simply focusing on profit oriented business plans, Trilogi University encourages students to look at the current challenges facing their local community, area and nation to create sustainable solutions that employ available and accessible technology. Public service and responsibility to their community are crucial aspects of the learning experience at Trilogi University and students are expected to not only learn but to teach others what they have learnt and facilitate the spread of information and knowledge.
