Tarumanagara University’s doctoral degree program in civil engineering was established in 2001 to produce graduates with the capacity to lead the next wave of innovation in Indonesia’s construction and infrastructure sectors. In line with the university’s drive to introduce new concepts across a broad spectrum of industries, this course of study encourages candidates to conduct independent research in a topic of their choosing with the ultimate goal of producing concrete solutions to challenges faced by large scale civil engineering projects in Indonesia. This endeavour thus provides students with the impetus to develop creative thinking skills as well as expertise in operating within a notoriously complex and bureaucratic local industry.

Graduate students enrolled in Tarumanagara University’s Civil Engineering PhD program are expected to complete their studies within a 4-10 semester time frame and must dedicate at least 32 credits (out of the mandatory 42) to research. By minimizing time spent in class in favour of time spent in the field conducting independent research, this doctorate degree caters to time-constrained young executives and lecturers with masters degree qualifications. To facilitate the placement of graduates within leading multinationals both at home and abroad, PhD candidates must demonstrate proficiency in English prior to being admitted to the program.
