Tarumanagara University (UNTAR) on 6th October 2015 was formally recognised for its excellence in showcasing Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage by the Indonesian World Records Museum (MURI), and was particularly commended for its continued efforts to incorporate local culture a theme during graduation ceremonies. This announcement coincided with UNTAR’s 66th graduation ceremony held at the Jakarta Convention Centre, which in addition to esteemed faculty members and students was attended by Mr Jaya Suprana as Chairman and Founder of MURI.

During remarks delivered during the event, Mr Suprana alluded to UNTAR’s proven track-record of selecting graduation themes inspired by the diverse traditions of Indonesia’s many provinces. The university has since its 52nd graduation ceremony actively sought to embrace local culture – a plan of action viewed as integral to UNTAR’s identity. As explained by the university’s rector, Prof. Ir. Roesdiman Soegiarso, M.Sc., Ph.D., it is important that UNTAR, as a leading representative for Indonesia’s higher education  sector on the global stage, continues to promote its local heritage.
