Often referred to as the university’s business and entrepreneurship program, Surya University’s Faculty of Green Economy & Digital Communication (GEDC) provides students with the opportunity to grasp traditional business topics including management, problem solving and finance. These subjects, however, are presented within the context of extremely specialised fields that are central to Indonesia’s drive towards continued economic maturation. The GEDC department as such creates graduates with the skills to apply innovation in sectors that are well-established but have room to improve upon productivity and environmental sustainability such as agriculture and manufacturing. GEDC graduates are also suited for careers in emerging industries such as e-commerce that are presently in need of advanced human resources to expedite expansion. The faculty’s programs in Agribusiness, Green Economy, Technopreneurship and Digital Communication thus stand as testament to Surya University’s ability to anticipate trends in Indonesian industry and fill existing gaps in the labour market.
As is the case with all of Surya University’s programs, courses offered by the GEDC Faculty are designed in accordance with a trimester system popularised in the West. This system replaces the conventional semester system still used by the vast majority of Indonesian universities, and allows students to take fewer subjects at a time thereby facilitating a more in-depth coverage of complex topics. Such attention to detail ensures that students develop a thorough understanding of material usually reserved for graduate level programs, and provides them with the tools to immediately step into analysis-intensive careers requiring specialist knowledge.
