Green Economy

With consumer preferences both at home and abroad now firmly moving towards a greater appreciation of environmental sustainability, opportunities for companies able to brand themselves with a reputation for upholding green ideals are growing in number and stature. Projected to rise in concert with this trend is the need for employees with an understanding of environmental regulations and the economics behind implementing more sustainable business practices and technology.

Surya University’s Green Economy Program is centred on the study of how to manage limited natural resources in a manner that takes into account environmental well-being and explores the topics of better waste management, land management, clean transportation and eco-friendly building design. The university makes available two distinct concentrations in this field; Green Economy and Global Trading, with the former providing students with knowhow on subjects including economics of energy, energy management and auditing, as well as investment in renewable energy projects. The Global Trading concentration narrows the program’s focus to the study of green business practices within the context of international trade policy and export-import procedures, and involves a close analysis of neighbouring Asian markets.

In keeping with the university’s dedication to a research driven approach, the Green Economy Program is supported by in-house research centres such as the Indonesia Centre for Green Economy and the Centre for Community Development. Collaboration with professors based in the Harvard Kennedy School of Public Policy, among other leading international universities, positions these centres’ studies on the frontier of scientific discovery and ensures that Surya University students and professors alike have constant access to the most recent in empirically supported theory.
